I was born on the 4th of November 2008, at 1840 hours.
I guess you’ve heard already that I came a few months shy of my scheduled arrival date, but what can I say? There was a rumour going around the womb that things in the outside world were a tad more exciting than the cozy maroon walls I’d been staring at for months on end. So, well, I decided it was time to make an appearance!
Paging all doctors and nurses STAT there’s a baby-a-comin’!!! It was an emergency C-section, and not a moment too soon. After that I was shipped (well wheeled really) straight to level 3 ICU, and Mummy was in a separate unit too sick to be allowed to see me for 27 hours! Don’t worry, we’re making up for lost time now, (and I’m considering a career in the dramatics).
Truth be told the neonatal ward wasn’t too much of an improvement in terms of decor, but it sure was exciting! A team of staff at my full disposal, 24-hour room service, my own personal incubator (with central heating,) and a plethora of doting friends and family…a pretty cushy crib all-in-all.
Then believe it or not I was discharged on the 20th of December at the ripe old age of 43 days, well-ahead of schedule. You see, I was keen to get home so that I could have Mummy all to my little self. Plus I picked-up a taste for caffeine in that place. Though it is standard procedure for us prems, they had me on the stuff for three weeks straight! I’ve almost kicked the habit now though I do still have my moments, last night I had a particularly bad dream where I was being chased by a macchiato and a skinny cappuccino!
Anyway, it sure is good to be in my own pad - though don’t go assuming it’s all fluffy ducks and daisies. Oh no, Mum seems to think that it is acceptable to keep bugging me for 3-hourly feeds. I mean, hello? How can a girl get her beauty sleep when she’s expected to be on-call at all hours. Oh, don’t worry…I still manage to get my shut-eye in. In fact, sleeping just happens to be one of my favourite past-times - along with eating. I sure am workin’ those scales. An average of 100 grams every four days…I’m now around the 2500 mark…packing on the pounds even faster than Oprah these days!
Plus (and I’m not one to toot my own horn,) I’ve been told that I possess a remarkably placid disposition. In my waking hours I very rarely even cry (truth is I’m saving the tears and tantrums for the toddler/teenage years, but don’t tell Mum)!
Anyway, check out the updates page to get the latest information on yours truly, and don’t forget to say hi and sign my guest book…I LOVE FANMAIL!! *wink*
